Maurizio Gualtieri graduated in Environmental Sciences in March 2002 at Università degli studi di Milano Bicocca (final degree 110/110 with laude). In his graduation thesis he evaluated the leaching of zinc and organic compounds from tyre debris. He was awarded with a scholarship for further characterizing the organic molecules released by tyre debris in aqueous solution. From November 2002 to December 2005 he attended the XVIII course of the Doctoral School in Environmental Sciences at Milano-Bicocca where he got the Ph.D. defending a thesis on the biological effects of the organic compounds of tyre particles, used as a model of airborne particulate matter, on lung in vitro systems.
From 2006 to 2008 he covered a post-doc position in Biology at the Department of Environmental Sciences at Università degli studi di Milano – Bicocca focusing his research on the biological effects induced by airborne particulate matter on in vitro systems.
From January 2009 to December 2009 he worked as post-doc at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Division of Environmental Medicine, Department of air pollution and noise (Oslo, NO), studying the effects of silica nano- e micro-particles on in vitro models and defining their mechanisms of action.
From January 2010 to December 2012 he worked at the Department of Environmental Sciences at Università degli Studi di Milano – Bicocca as post-doc in Toxicology and from January 2011 until January 2012 he had a temporary contract as technical supervisor of the activity of the BL2 Laboratory.
From December 2012 to August 2015 was permanent Researcher at ENEA where he studied the gas and particulate emissions from biomass burning appliances and boilers, focusing his interest on the potential impacts of these emissions on the environment and health.
From September 2015 to August 2016 he covered the position of Professor at the University of Littoral Côte D'Oplale (ULCO), Unity of Chemistry and Interaction with Life (Dunkerque, FR) where he coordinated the activity of the group working on the toxicological effects of air pollution on in vitro models.
From September 2016 to now he is permanent Researcher at ENEA where he is focusing his scientific interest on the high temporal resolution chemical characterization of air pollution and on the correlation of the chemical properties of air pollution with potential effects of health and environment.
From 2006 to 2008 and in 2010 he was temporary Professor for the Course in Laboratory of Cell Biology.
From 2004 he published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles on international journals, three chapters in books, five extended abstracts in international conferences and presented his research in National and International meetings as poster or oral presentation. He tutored Ph.D. students and master degree students and supervised the experimental activities of the laboratories and the groups he joined.
